Unfortunately there is no airport in Hoi An even though the small town has many visitors every year. The neighboring city of Da Nang which is about an hour away is the closest and best option for most of the travelers to land and get to Hoi An. Travelers can take taxi, motorbike taxi, bus or private car going to Hoi An once they arrive in the Da Nang Airport.

Upon landing in Da Nang Airport, travelers can either take taxi just right outside the arrival of the airport. Most of the barkers will offer travelers flat rate to get to Hoi An. Some may actually be reasonable for it takes around 45 minutes to an hour to get to Hoi An. This should cost at least 300,000 VND. Though most of the drivers will ask for more which may you may end up at least 350,000 VND or even higher. Taking a taxi with meter can be wise if traffic is not bad and the taxi driver is honest and will take the fastest route to get to Hoi An. Make sure to take the taxi information before getting on just in case the driver will try to scam you.

There is another option to lessen expenses, though this is only advisable if passenger is traveling light and does not have any back problem. The Xe Om or motorbike taxi is very common all over the country. It is one of the most convenient and fastest ways to travel from one place to another. Traveler just need walk few meters towards the entrance of the airport, there are several motorbike taxi drivers waiting in the corner. It is recommendable to negotiate before riding on the bike to prevent misunderstanding with the driver when you get to the destination and may end up paying more than the usual. The fare should be at least 200,000 VND to 250,000 VND depending on the time and how big the luggage is.

Bus is another cheap option. Take a taxi or motorbike taxi to the bus station of Da Nang. When taking the taxi to the bus station, the rate is around 70,000 VND to 90,000 VND depending on the traffic while motorbike taxi will cost around 40,000 VND to 50,000 VND. And the bus to Hoi An may vary depending on the class of the bus but it should not be greater than 50,000 VND.

Taking a private car is the safest and most convenient way to travel from the Da Nang Airport to Hoi An. May need to book before flight but the driver will be waiting for you at the arrival area with your name on the name board. Traveler’s information is required when booking so the company can track the flight if it’s on time or delayed to prevent inconvenience on both parties. Private car to Hoi An usually costs at least 330,000 VND to 350,000 VND which is the same with taxi though private car is the preferred option for most of the travelers feel safer when booking private car instead of taxi because of rampant scamming among taxi drivers. It may be lesser in the Central Vietnam but better safe than sorry.
