When you are in Da Nang, it may be wise to visit the famous old town of Hoi An. Hoi An is about 30-40 km from Da Nang city. It will take you 30 minutes to an hour depending on the means of transportation. From Da Nang to Hoi An you can either take bike, motorbike, motorbike taxi, taxi, bus or private car. Whichever means of transport you will take, be knowledgeable on the prices and consequences of it.
– From Da Nang to Hoi An by bike
You can rent a bike for a day for $2 (44,000VND). Best way to get in shape and get around the small old town of Hoi An. If you are staying in a hotel, might as well ask your receptionist if you can borrow a bike. Normally, you can use hotel’s bike for a couple of hours.
– From Da Nang to Hoi An by motorbike
Motorbike rental ranges from $7-$10 (150,000 – 220,000 VND) per day. One or two helmets are usually the only things shops add with the motorbike. You have to pay for gas and there is no accident insurance provided.Gas is not that expensive in Vietnam anyway. The road is not technically difficult so if you are confident with your driving skills, it will definitely be an adventure for you.

Motorbike taxi would be around the price $7-$10(150,000 – 220,000 VND)one way. Xe om is one of the popular means of transportation in throughout Vietnam. But if you think you can drive yourself and do not need a driver to show you around or you are too afraid of getting ripped off, pass on this one. Note: Not all drivers are going to rip you off but it is still better to know all the prices before agreeing to something.
– From Da Nang to Hoi An by taxi
Getting on a taxi is one of the usual options for traveling families. This ranges from $15-$20 (330,000 – 440,000) one way. Will drop you off on your hotel in Hoi An or close to the old town. Most people gets rip off with this option so better negotiate before getting on a taxi.
– From Da Nang to Hoi An by bus
Bus is still by far the cheapest way to travel within Vietnam. It will be just $2-$3 to get from Da Nang to Hoi An. Takes an hour to get to from Da Nang to Hoi An by bus. It will be a little crowded since locals use this means of transportation too everyday so if you are traveling with kids or elderly, this is not the best option for you.
– From Da Nang to Hoi An by private car
The most convenient way to travel from Da Nang to Hoi An is private car. It will cost you $15 one way. Most of the private car provider like VM Travel employs English speaking drivers so it will be easier for you to communicate and they can even help you out with shopping and getting around. This is highly recommended if you are traveling with your family or friends. It may turn out to be cheaper compared to the other option in the long run since drivers will not try to rip you off.
